To me, William Christenberry’s work was about time and place. Not a static time and place but an evolving, acting time and place. His beloved buildings would crumble and surrender to the whims of forces that affect all of us, living or inanimate. Christenberry was first a painter and took photographs so that he could remember the color of a place. The photographs became his legacy.
